The Broad Axe Award.

This award was established in 1976 and is a gift of John and Pinky Leavens.  The award is meant to recognize significant achievement in catboat construction. Construction is intended to include restoration of an older catboat and finishing a prefab hull as well as building a new catboat.

The award consists of a broad axe, suitably mounted, that belonged to catboat builders Charles C. Hanley (from 1886-1936) and Merton E. Long (from 1926-1976).  It is a gift of John and Pinkie Leavens.
