The John Killam Murphy Award.

Established on the 90th birthday of John Killam Murphy, March 21, 1965 and awarded for the advancement of the principals and the perpetuation of the traditions of sail as exemplified by the Catboat Association.

It is intended that the basis for the award should be broadly construed.  It should be something that preserves the tradition of sail in catboats or advances the use of catboats in some new form or makes use of catboats in some novel or unusual way.

By way of illustration, and not limitation, the award could be given for design of a new catboat or the rebuilding of an old classic catboat. It could also be awarded for an event such as an outstanding cruise in a catboat or the use of catboat under hazardous conditions for rescue purposes.  The award is intended to be given to an individual or individuals for their personal contributions.
