Design by Fred Goeller; builder unknown. Design published in The Rudder, Volume XXXI, Nov-Dec 1915. Sole known build of this design to exist today. Originally sailed on the Hudson River in NY, then many years on Nantucket, then on Cape Cod. Suzanne Leahy of Pleasant Bay Boat and Spar Company began restoration before 2014. In 2019, Suzanne entrusted us with her care on our commitment to complete her restoration and get her sailing again. IYRS (Newport, RI) performed restoration as part of their second-year Boatbuilding and Restoration program during Winter 2021-2022. The cap was removed, restored, and a new hull built to original design using original plans we hold. A new boom and gaff were built and refitted with her original hardware. After restoration, all paint and varnish was updated and maintained by Townsend Custom Marine Woodworking in Mystic CT. A new cabin sole and ceiling completed her comfortable cabin. Original mast was replaced with a new hollow mast by Arey’s Pond Boat Yard (2024). Sea Duck is essentially a brand-new boat with her classic origins, except for the modified cabin top providing more space. Onboard systems include a bilge pump, hidden LED lighting in the cabin, and running / steaming lights, powered by a single 12v battery and 10w solar panel. New bench cushions, fenders and covers, and a custom storage bag for cabin doors. Sail is older and in very good condition. All lines and lazy jacks are in very good shape. Sea Duck was entered in the Concours d Elegance at the 2023 Woodenboat Show in Mystic, CT and awarded Honorable Mention in her class. We are selling only due to lack of time to sail her, and our strong desire to have her sailed and enjoyed. Custom 2019 Venture trailer. Stored indoors (unheated) during winters and on mooring summers, sailed only a few times since restoration. Included are original plans by Fred Goeller, as well as digital copies of original articles in The Rudder. Asking $50,000, accounting for true value and condition as classic vessel in Bristol condition. Looking for new owner having background, knowledge and resources to care for and sail her.
