Spring Catboat sailing in North Carolina, what could be better?

This year the Menger Catboat Messabout will be gathering at Blackbeard Sailing Club in New Bern, North Carolina. Whether your catboat was built by Bill Menger or another fine builder, we invite you to come sail with us on the beautiful Neuse River. (Registration Fee of $40 covers group meals and expenses, see agenda below)

Our adventure begins where the Upper Broad Creek meets the Neuse. This is the home waters of Blackbeard Sailing Club and our base camp for the weekend.

At over one and a half miles wide, the Neuse offers excellent sailing with no tides and plenty to explore. Five miles upriver is the historic waterfront town of New Bern, once the state capital, now a vibrant art destination. Downriver the Neuse opens up into the Pamlico Sound and beyond that, the outer banks.

Blackbeard Sailing Club (BSC) has graciously allowed us the use of their facility for this event.
On-site amenities include boat ramp, parking, visitor docks, tent platform, bathrooms, showers,
clubhouse, deck, picnic shelter, grills. Please be respectful of any other club activities happening
while we are there.

Friday:
arrive at Blackbeard Sailing Club
Rig/launch boats. There is a boat ramp at the club.
6-7pm cookout at shelter. (Hotdogs & chips provided) bring whatever else you want.
8-10pm Campfire, talk/music
Saturday:
8-9am continental breakfast in the clubhouse
9-10am prep for sail, bring a lunch,
10am leave docks destination weather dependent.
4-6pm back at docks, BYOB Party on the deck.
6-7pm pulled pork dinner in the clubhouse
7-10pm talk/ music
Sunday:
8-9am continental breakfast in the clubhouse
9-10am prep for sail, bring a lunch
10am leave docks destination weather dependent
2pm return to club/ BYOB Closing Ceremonies
Haul out Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. (All non-members off property by noon Monday)
