1984 Nauset Marine Minuteman 15 Catboat

The Minuteman 15 is a gaff-rigged fiberglass catboat. It is very cute and we always got compliments on her. This boat has a cuddy cabin which is helpful for keeping gear out of the spray and to provide a platform for standing on when lifting the mast. The mast is on a tabernacle which makes stepping the mast easy. The LOA is 15’ and the LWL is 14’7”. The beam is 6’6”. The displacement is 800lbs. The draft with the board up is 8” and with the board down is 3’9”. The sail area is 145 sq ft. and there is only a forestay so rigging it as a trailer sailor is simple. The mast hoops were replaced when I purchased the boat in 2021. Almost everything else is original. The boat has been well maintained during its lifetime and the fiberglass hull is not painted and the fiberglass is in good shape for its age. The boat is all fiberglass, no wooden core, so there are no deck delamination issues. Overall the boat is in very good condition for its age. The boat holds 4 comfortably and can fit up to 6 adults. The boat has a lot of gear storage area under the seats, under the cuddy and inside the hull of the boat. It would be a great lake camping boat. The boat is very easy to trailer and set up and can fit in a standard garage (we kept her in my mom’s garage for several years). It is perfect for someone who wants to avoid marina carrying costs, but also wants a substantial sailboat that can hold a group and their gear, set up and break down quickly.

I really like this boat a lot and am only selling it because we also have a larger, heavier sailboat that the family prefers and I would like a smaller sailboat that I can beach-launch by myself and single hand. I just don’t have the space for many boats. My loss is your gain.

The boat comes with all rigging, the original American flag sail (in usable shape – unless you are a racer) newer mast hoops, the dock lines and fenders and a legal, registered road ready trailer. We have trailered the boat to Barnegat Bay, NJ, Lake George and Long Island Sound with no issues. I replaced the wiring and lights on the trailer and it is in good shape. It also comes with a spare tire.

The boat does not come with a motor. A 2hp motor is sufficient for the Hudson River. We used an electric e-propulsion motor and it was perfect. Location: Kingston, NY (Hudson Valley). Asking Price: $3,500. emh56@cornell.edu
